Another story about Fernie!!!

I know that everybody is going to talk about the sky trip to Fernie today, but I don’t care. It’s was one of the most interesting, amazing trips in my live..!! The hotel was beautiful, from some room during the day, you could see the mountains, the pines and the snow on them, the people skiing and much more.

On Thursday night after we arrived, we went to Eugenio’s room to dance and drink. We spend the entire night over there. The next day I couldn’t weak up early…I was very tired, but after a few minutes I did it. That day I received my lessons for beginners (snowboarding). It was very fun, I felt down hundred times and at the end of the afternoon I couldn’t felt my body. For that reason I decided to spend the rest of the afternoon at the hot tub. Then I went to the San Patrick Party with my friends. The party was Ok..!! I didn’t like the music, but when they change it, I have lived the party =(

The last day, Saturday, I also weak up late for the check out.. I took a shower quickly and I run to leave my suitcase in the lobby. At that time nobody were there.. all the students were already skiing. That day I went to one of the hills alone and it’s was the worst thing I could do.. I almost die.. But I survived =) I’m so happy for that!! I really enjoy a lot this trip ..I would like to go back.

The visit of my Venezuelans friends… They came to Calgary..!!!

Two weeks ago, two friends came to Calgary for job. They work for an international company called CGG veritas. That company sent them here to learn how to use special software. They are geophysical engineers too, they studied whit my boyfriend at the university. We went out all the week because one of my friends (Patricia) loves to dance. We went to different nightclubs, the first one was Don Quijote, was awesome!! They have a Latin group, they sang the whole night in Spanish. The guy who plays the bongos was from Venezuela, I spend all night talking and dancing with him. We also went to Fantino, in that place we met a salsa instructor form Cuba, he can dance very well...he is fantastic. He was there with his academy students!! The others two place that we visited were Reagle Beagle and The Whisky. In those places we ate and drank a lot!!! They are very cheap, 25 cents for each beer and ribs!!

I really enjoyed a lot those weeks.. Now I am just hoping that my friends return the next Monday.. =)

My Work in Venezuela..!! Teacher Assistant!!

I am a teacher assistant in the subject Field Geology & Geophysics. In that subject we have a field trip for a month. All the students are hosted in a small town and in a very ugly house. The house does not have electricity, water or beds and the students always sleep on the floor. They can’t eat a lot, only one time per day ( breakfast) because they have to work a lot, from 5am to 12pm and they do not have enough time to do anything other than learn or study.

As an advanced student of geophysical engineering, my job is to teach how to use the basic geological tools (compass, rock color chart, Comparator grain size, and maps) necessary to carry out geological reconnaissance and mapping). I also teach the use of the principal geophysical methods (refraction seismic, electrical surveys, electrical tomography, and GPS) in some areas of geological interest. As an assistant I am responsible for the logistics of the field training, I have to plan the field visits for 25 students over 22 days including all necessary arrangements for the proper functioning of a site-training course.

The city where I was born !!

I was born in Punto Fijo, a very warn and windy city situated in the state of state of Falcón, at the Paraguaná Peninsula. I live there for more than 16 years, then a move to another state, to study at the University.

Punto fijo, is a small city but you can find a lot of interesting stuff, like:

  • Many beautiful beaches were you can practice windsurf or sky surf.
  • The Gustavo Rivera Zoo, were you can see all the typical animals of the region.
  • One of the biggest oil complex refiners of the world.
  • Amazing desert with many mountains of sand, similar to the Sahara desert.
  • A wonderful mountain called Santa Ana. We only have this mountain throughout the state.
  • Near to the island of Aruba, you just need to take a plane for 15 minutes to be there.

Another interesting thing is that Punto Fijo is a city quite cheap. FREE tax, You do not have to pay tax if you buy anything here. For this reason Falcón is the most famous state in Venezuela, everybody came to buy clothes, shoes, all kinds of liquor and so much more.

Were does she come from? What does she do? Why does she have that nick name?

Hey my name is Sary, I come from Venezuela, Caracas. I have three brothers. They live in Falcon another state of Venezuela with my mother. The oldest Luis study at the University, and he wants to be a Mechanical Engineer. The other two Jesus and Isable are in the elementary school. My parents are Chemical Engineers but only my father work as it, at the Meddle East.

I studied in one of the best public university of my country, at the Simón Bolívar Univertiy (USB). In November I got my title of Geophysical Engineer. When I was studying every weekend I went to the bars with my friends ( Angie, Wanda & Astrid) to meet men. We always had luck with them, but I need to be honest with you, we only used them. For us was just a joke or a bet. I often won the bet, and that’s the reason why I have that nick name, China Pelvelsa in English is bad or dirty girl.

Right now I am looking for a job in Canada. I wouldn’t like to return to my country because we have a lot of problems with the government. It is very difficult to find a job due to you have to agree with Chavez. That is why I am here, to improve my English and find to find a job.
